This is My Teacher!

So the end of the school year brings the certain "Memory Book" where students get to write and draw about their First Grade school year.  One of my favorite pages is their writing and drawing about their teacher. These are very cute and touching!  I think I may need a new haircut and some new clothes!  HaHa!  Here are just a few:

Good Times on the Last Daze of First...

Students have been enjoying working on some fun end of the year activities -- not to mention being silly!  Exactly what we should be doing with only 3 1/2 days left of First Grade!  Good Times... Good Friends!

Career Day 2013 - Jobs People Do are Fun to Learn About!

Today was a great learning experience for all of Bear Creek.  Our annual Career Day is filled with many opportunities for students to hear about all the interesting jobs people have in and around our community!  We had 3 excellent visitors to our classroom today!  Many thanks to the Wonderful Working Moms of Aadi, Paul and Parmis for speaking to our class!  The students truly enjoyed your great presentations!

Here are a few pics of the day:

Here's a Chick... There's a Chick... Everywhere's a Chick Chick!

First Grade studies the life cycle of a chicken and had 6 brown chicken eggs warming in an incubator for 21 days.   We finally were delighted when 5 of the eggs hatched!  These 5 very sweet,  fluffy, tan (with stripes!) and black baby chicks made for lots of Science observations, writing, creating, questions, wonderings and just plain fun this past week! Here are a few pictures of life science in action:

Students also used iPads to create either a Pic Collage about chicks OR a PixnTell on chicks.  Here are a few of the PixnTells that are completed:

Blog Contributor - Chaden "All About Garrett Morgan"

This blog contribution was written by Chaden:

I know that Garrett Morgan invented the stop light many years ago -- in 1923.  We learned that the stop light keeps people safe in their cars.  Garrett Morgan also invented the gas mask for people not to die from bad gases.

Third Grade Authors visit our Class!

Mr. Johnson and his Third Grade students revisited our class on Friday to share the books they had written especially for our students.  Third Graders were involved in a PBL project where earlier they interviewed our students about things that really mattered to them.  I guess the overall topic was "fairness", so the 3rd Graders went to work becoming authors, writing an amazing collection of myths, folktales, and fables for our students -- all centered on the topic of "being fair".  There were lots of engaged First Graders listening intently as our 3rd Grade friends shared their wonderful books!  Here is a short video of the event:
